Pre-Marital Counseling and Education

There is more to it than being starstruck.

Cheryl and Tim could not be happier.

After nearly two years of steady dating, Tim got down on one knee and popped the big question.

Cheryl said, “yes.” After all, who could refuse this guy?

Thankfully, they both have wise parents who have been together for many years.

They want to see their two idealistic adult kids get off to the right start.

That’s where I come into the picture!

I work with young, middle-aged, and older couples who are either thinking of getting married or are already engaged. This includes those who have been married before.

Through the SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) Assessment, we will examine your relationship in several key areas.

We will discover how well you really know one another, how the two of you are alike, and how you differ.

We will then build on your strengths and work on improving your weaknesses.

We want to ensure that when all those great feelings of limerence (look it up… it is a word) settle down, that there remains a solid foundation of love, commitment, good communication, and conflict resolution skills.

After all, this is no easy thing you are beginning.

Difficulties with children can bring their own set of problems.

Perhaps your difficulties are not so much marital as they are in the realm of raising your children.

Everyone with children will sooner or later experience heartache and frustration.

Our kids do not come with a personalized manual, and, yes, they are their own persons, both for good and bad.

Parenting is not ready-made for everyone with children.

Much as we do not like to admit it, we do not come well equipped to raise children.

Most of us have barely seen a book on parenting, much less read one.

We may not turn toward our own parents for help. So much depends on the quality of our relationship with them.

All too often, our parents may wax and wane between a hands-on and hands-off approach. So, here we stand, stuck, left to figure it out based largely on how we were raised, for better or for worse.

Improving parenting is possible through wise counsel and guidance.

If you have a child(ren), particularly in the high school or college age range, with whom you would like to improve your relationships, please call!

Perhaps you feel they are making one or more bad decisions in their lives, but don’t seem to be too interested in what you have to say. I have had the experience of raising three kids well into adulthood; and all are married, gainfully employed, have their own children, and have thankfully turned out to be wonderful persons.
